Variable Cam Timing has brought the revolution in the auto industry. This innovative concept employs opening and closing of the intake and exhaust valves accordingly which results in enhanced engine performance and lowers the fuel consumption and emissions. This new technology was used for the first time by Ford. It is now being used by Nissan and some other automakers.
How it works?
The basic idea is to control the valve timing electronically. The engine oil is directed into the camshaft phasor cavity by the electronically controlled hydraulic valves. The Phasor Cavity Module (PCM) transmits the electric signal to the solenoids to move the valves that control the flow of the oil into the phasor cavity which in turn controls the valve timing of the engine.
